Weekend Recap

Chad and I started out the weekend at a restaurant in Birmingham called Little Savannah. It is a restaurant and bar in an area of Birmingham known as Forest Park. The weather was nice so we sat on the back patio for dinner to celebrate Chad’s new job!! The menu at Little Savannah changes weekly based on the produce the chef purchases that week from local farmers. I had the gulf black grouper with grilled squash and zucchini and Chad had the grilled pork loin chop. I have such a sweet tooth so we finished dinner off with blackberry cobbler topped with ice cream and we clearly enjoyed the cobbler.

Friday afternoon I made Rolo Cake Mix Bars that I pinned a while back on Pinterest.
With only 4 ingredients, these were almost impossible to screw up. I don’t cook at all and my bars turned out edible! I did learn that there is a difference between evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk.

For the recipe see http://cookiesandcups.com/rolo-cake-mix-bars/. The recipe was part of the blogger’s CAKE MIX RECIPE week for busy people. I love yellow cake mix and you end up with a few extra ROLOS!

My Rolo Cake Mix Bars:

I took the Rolo Cake Mix Bars to Symphony in the Summer at Railroad Park on Friday night. It’s a free event at the park’s amphitheater with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. A group of 8 of us took snacks, wine, and quilts. The temperature was in the 60s which is completely abnormal for June 1st in Alabama and so we were all a little chilly! We all ended up covering up with the quilts we brought to sit on.

Just as I was starting to feel halfway decent about my cooking skills, I managed to completely kill my confidence by burning my toast Saturday morning. Oops.

Maybe I should start setting a timer?

Saturday we all headed to Lake Tuscaloosa and spent the whole day by the lake. Watermelon is the best lake food and it was a great day for the lake!

The rest of my weekend was spent being lazy and watching movies. Contraband with Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale and One for the Money with Katherine Heigl are both pretty good weekend rentals.

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!!
